The Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble
The Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble offer a flexible program designed to present the works of William Shakespeare to the public in an informal, engaging and entertaining way. The Ensemble formed in 2001 with the intention of training actors in the intricacies of Shakespeare's works, and building an ensemble from which to produce full-scale productions.
2002 saw Q.S.E.'s inaugural full-scale production of 'As you like it' at the Avalon Theatre. Q.S.E. also holds regular rehearsed readings where ensemble members gain valuable experience without the demands of a full-scale production, while still entertaining the audience.
Throughout the year, Q.S.E. holds regular workshops and training weekends in different aspects of Shakespeare's work. Young and old are welcome to participate, and all experience levels are catered for.
The Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble also performs at schools and libraries, featuring four of the Q.S. ensemble members. Each one-hour performance includes a variety of monologues, soliloquies, sonnets and short scenes taken from a broad selection of Shakespeare's work. The entire program is woven together with brief explanations from the cast to ensure the audience understands where each selection comes from and what is happening in that scene. The selection of pieces includes some of the "famous" scenes, Which many in the audience will be able to recognise, together with dramatic or comic action from lesser-known works.
