Quintessentials
Quintessentials is a young, dynamic group formed by students from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2000. They all share a deep passion for music and aim to promote the wider use of wind instruments. Their enthusiasm and love of the wind quintet repertoire is obvious. This versatile group plays a wide range of styles varying from Mozart to Joplin, folk to modern pop. As past and present performance students of the Queensland Conservatorium, members have performed with renowned international artists and orchestras, such as the Conservatorium symphony, chamber and opera orchestras and the Queensland Youth Symphony. Each member has completed a traineeship with the Queensland Orchestra and has performed with them on several occasions.
Quintessentials has received two prizes in the 4MBS chamber music competition. They have performed with players from the Queensland Orchestra, forming the "Eclectic Light Orchestra" and also featured in the "Live in The Libraries" series run by the Brisbane City Council. The group is often sought after for weddings and other functions and they strive to expose music by local composers. The quintet organised a charity dinner for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, held at Parliament House with appearances of guest speakers. They were the featured artists and the night was a great success.
They often adapt the group for various occasions by performing in duos and trios and by using other instruments eg cor anglais, piccolo and alto flute, to add variety. Members also play and tutor at many music camps throughout Queensland.
