Kathy Sander
Kathy began her studies in Toowoomba, her hometown, graduating in 1985. She then move to Melbourne to study at the Victorian College of the Arts, majoring in piano Accompaniment and Chamber Music. Her teachers have included Brachi Tilles, Stephen McIntyre, and Roy Shepherd. Kathy also studied the violin with Spiros Rantos.
Presently, Kathy is a freelance musician, with particular interests in chamber music and accompaniment. She currently works as an accompanist for the University of Queensland, Queensland Conservatorium, and teaches at Stuartholme School.She has performed with various chamber groups, including the Fine Arts Trio, and Barocka, also touring for Musica Viva in NSW and the Qld Arts Council.
Kathy is interested in many musical genres and works with groups such as Cafe Society, various salon orchestras and the Latin/Swing/Pop group Bazamataz. She has also worked in backing orchestras and support bands for entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Liberace, Grace Knight, Bruce Springsteen, Dionne Warwick, and on the musicals Nine, Ain't Misbehavin' and The King and I.
